What does it mean to be climate neutral?
Climate neutral means that for every metric ton of greenhouse gases (GHG) a company emits, a metric ton of GHGs are are absorbed from the atmosphere through carbon credits.
How do you get climate neutral certified?
It is not an easy process but we believed it was worthy!1° REDUCE all the emissions you can through a reduction plan, the use of clean energy, optimising logistic ecc. 2° MEASURE your emission 3° OFFSET emissions with carbon credits
What is a carbon credit?
One carbon credit = one ton of GHGA carbon credit is created when an action removes GHG emissions from the atmosphere. Companies working to become carbon neutral, purchase carbon credits based on the amount of emissions they produce. It's not a perfect process but it guarantees that emissions are balanced by project reducing GHG emissions.
Which project do you support?
We support Baesa Hydro Power Plant. The project is provided by actsustainabiity.org and th project activity reduces the emission of greenhouse gases (GHGs) through the use of renewable sources of energy and making use of clean technology, avoiding the generation of electricity via sources of fossils fuels with consequent emissions of CO2. The Project generates electricity through clean and renewable source and it contributes to attend the growing demand for electricity in Brazil, due to the country’s economical and population growth, contributing, thus, to the environmental, social and economical sustainability, by increasing the participation of clean and renewable energy in relation to the country’s total consumption of electricity. The installation of HPP Barra Grande provides the generation of enough electricity to the supply of 30% of the energetic demand of the state of Santa Catarina or 20% of the total energy consumed in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.Country: Brasil Technology: Hydro power Standard: VCS
What does VCS standard mean?
The Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program is the world’s most widely used voluntary GHG program. Over 1,806 certified VCS projects have collectively reduced or removed more than 928 million tonnes of carbon and other GHG emissions from the atmosphere. By using the carbon markets, entities can neutralize, or offset, their emissions by retiring carbon credits generated by projects that are reducing GHG emissions elsewhere. Of course, it is critical to ensure, or verify, that the emission reductions generated by these projects are actually occurring. This is the work of the VCS Program – to ensure the credibility of emission reduction projects. The program is developed and administered by Verra. Verra provides oversight to all operational components of the VCS Program and we it is responsible for updating the VCS rules such that they ensure the quality of Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) which are the tradable GHG credits. The development of the VCS Program is supported by the VCS Program Advisory Group, a multi-stakeholder body that helps ensure that the VCS Program continues to serve its users in an effective and efficient manner and drives practical and robust solutions to mitigate climate change.
What is the purpose of becoming climate neutral?
We do not have much time to reverse course and consume less, better, produce with respect for people animals planet and pressure our governments to enact laws to protect our planet. We strongly believe in the educational role that a young company like WHATaECO has and we are proud to be able to celebrate this milestone with you. We are in the midst of a climate crisis and as a company it is our responsibility to take action now. We are happy to set an example for all those companies who will choose to do so.
Do you believe every business should became climate neutral?
Definitely. "Planting trees" is getting very trendy and, we agree is really important, but it is not so easy as it seems and we believe business should take more seriously the impact of an office, a warehouse, the communiting of coworkers, the use of internet and energy have on the planet.
